That sounds familiar - it also happened to us with a related device, the Pure Highway 600 (Pure is also the original manufacturer of the Alpine device).
Compared to other installations, we seldom had a complete search, the reception on the road always failed. After a few months of testing, I returned the device to Digitec and, after a lengthy back-and-forth, the importer replaced it "as a gesture of goodwill". Pure's support took weeks to reply (long before Corona), but at least they suggested a replacement straight away. Since then, the reception is absolutely perfect - with the same antenna at the same installation location. Since your device is new, I would initiate a DoA (Dead on Arrival) exchange at Digitec.
In the meantime, you can still update the firmware of the receiver (->
https://www.alpine.ch/support... ), but this requires a Windows computer. I don't think this will make much difference.
