The low cut filter (high pass filter), as the name suggests, filters out sounds below the specified frequency (75Hz or 150Hz).
If you still have noise on the sound with the 75Hz setting, you can try 150Hz.
With the two settings you are a bit more flexible and can choose the better setting depending on the situation so that you do not filter out too large a frequency range.
Accordingly, I cannot tell you when the ideal situation is for which setting.
The best thing is to test them and check the sound during the recording.

However, it is certainly not suitable for capturing distances greater than 4m. The microphone has a supercardioid characteristic. For longer distances, you would need a lobe characteristic. It is always the same: the further away a sound source is from the microphone, the worse the sound will be. Not being familiar with the Sony a7s II, I looked up a few tutorials on YouTube and it says that it is possible to connect a microphone with a TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) connector to the red connector on the left side of the camera.
Another YouTuber suggests looking in the camera's audio menus and adjusting the gain of the microphone input.
Another possibility is to increase the microphone output gain with the +20 db button, but this will induce noise in the recording.
Finally, some web users swear by the professional interface, which has XLR inputs and gain settings and is attached to the top of the camera, but this is clearly in a different price bracket.
