You have to connect directly via Displayport to have the 155Hz.
That didn't work for me either. I sent it back and used this one: Purelink HDMI to DisplayPort Converter It worked tiptop with this one.

I could imagine that the signal direction of the adapter does not suit your needs. It is probably intended for DP > HDMI, but in your case the signal would arrive at the HDMI and the DP side would be the output.

I have a Nvidia 2080ti and have a hdmi display (about 5 years old). The graphics card has 3 display ports and 1 hdmi, whereas the HTC Vive uses the hdmi port. Long story short I tried both versions, this adapter and a cable from hdmi-displayport without active adapter both worked without problems. I decided to use the cable version because the force on the graphics card coupling is less than with the adapter, which is relatively long with the cable itself and can therefore cause a leverage effect.
