Hello Ansgar - unfortunately this does not work ;-( Bought the cable for a similar purpose, it only ever goes from the newer standard to the older and not vice versa. My MacBook Retina 15'' (Mid2012 - Display Port TB2) cannot operate my LG 4k display (USB-C) via this way. Happy New Year and greetings Martin
For me, the connection from iMac (2013) or MacBook Air (Mid 2012) to e.g. MacBook Air (2022) or even ext. SSD does not work.
According to our research, this should work.
Hello Blackloop, I didn't use the cable for this, but found the right answer(s) to your question on the web... Greetings Rolf www.macuser.de/threads/ipad-pro-als-sidecar-auf-meinem-imac-verwenden-aber-mit-kabel.850979/
Hello Andreas I would be careful. I tried to use the cable to connect an iMac built in 2012 as a monitor to a MacBookPro built in 2017, but it didn't work. Only an original Apple cable & Appel adapter to USB C finally helped. However, I also have a reverse case in the office. Old Apple monitor can only be combined with a third-party adapter with the MacBookPro, the original adapter from Apple to USB C did not work - tested several times . I think you have to try it out. Greetings
Yes this would work, but it depends on what generation iMac. Because iMac (Retina 5K, 27", end of 2014) and newer iMac models cannot be used as monitors for screen sync mode. Apple officially provides more info here: https://support.apple.com/de-ch/HT204592
