Yes, the soundbar can also be used for music only without a connection to the TV. It can be connected to the Sonos app via Wi-Fi and Airplay 2 and can therefore be operated as a stand-alone multi-room system for music streaming.
The LEDs should actually light up and you should of course be able to establish a connection. Try a Factory reset, the system may have hung up. Otherwise, please report a defect in your customer account so that this can be checked.
Information for those who have the same problem as me. It works. I take HDMI out of my Android box and put it into an HDMI-HDMI/Optical converter
HDMI on the beamer and Optical on the Sonos soundbar.
A cable connection (HDMI/optical) must always be used for the TV signal. W-Lan would be sufficient for Spotify etc. Apple Remote works with the Sonos Ray, must be paired at the beginning.
Hi Maria
Sure, download the Sonos app and get started via WLAN. You only really need Optical if the whole thing is for the TV.
Soundbar is enough, you don't need any additional speakers, in my opinion. Or make a stereo pair from the ONE, that's enough, Sonos offer, as I see it, the best music enjoyment for years. Then Teufel straight away 😀

The loudspeaker does not care how the audio signal enters the Toslink connector. Whether it is a PC, TV or other device is therefore irrelevant.
If the record player does not have a digital output, a Chich:Optical converter or similar is required. Whatever the player has.
Hi Christian, I have the Sonos Ray, via the optical cable. But I don't know if it's easier for me to use, because I can control everything via the Apple TV remote control! 🤷🏻♀️
Don't know if my answer is helpful!
Greetings Miri
All Sonos devices, as well as most other household devices with some electronics in them, draw a certain amount of standby power. In this case it is about 1-2W.
The solution is to operate them via a cable strip with an On/OFF switch and to switch them on and off each time,
Use switched sockets and switch on and off via the "light switch", or use a timer if the Sonos always plays at approximately the same time on the same days.
