"Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2": The champion is back
The cult skate game is back. Phil and Simon find out whether it's still fun 20 years after the release of the first instalment. Without the help of green herbs and iced tea from the tetrapack like back then.
After just a few minutes in the iconic warehouse level, the familiar feeling sets in. As if the last 20 years had never happened, I head for long-forgotten rails, while my fingers automatically launch into new combos. Only when you play "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 +2" yourself will you realise how much you've missed it. Simon and I give you a first impression in our Let's Play.
A game captivates the world

"Tony Hawk's Pro Skater" came out of nowhere and took the world by storm. The quick-to-learn but difficult-to-master gameplay and the brilliant soundtrack made the game a huge hit. The skate game called numerous imitators onto the scene such as
Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX or Kelly Slater Pro Surfer. But none of them could hold a candle to Hawk Tony.
When "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater" was released on the first Playstation in 1999, we played it until our fingers bled. Mostly against each other. If you lost, you had to pass on the controller and got a home-made herbal cigarette in return. The memory of the cramped, smoky rooms still brings tears to my eyes today - out of nostalgia and because of the smoke. Skating on the Playstation and then much worse outside in the real world, armed with a tetrapack of Lipton iced tea. Those were the days.

With "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2", developer Vicarious Visions wants to rekindle this feeling. They have failed several times in recent years. The latest instalment finally seems to get everything right. Almost the entire original soundtrack is included, as well as many new tracks selected by skaters such as Rodney Mullen and Bucky Lasek themselves. The graphics are new, but the physics and design have been kept as true to detail as possible.

"Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2" is available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

As a child, I wasn't allowed to have any consoles. It was only with the arrival of the family's 486 PC that the magical world of gaming opened up to me. Today, I'm overcompensating accordingly. Only a lack of time and money prevents me from trying out every game there is and decorating my shelf with rare retro consoles.
