How does the lamp react to music or the TV picture? Is it somehow connected to the device?

The whole thing runs via Hue Sync. This can be set up on the laptop, for example. Hue Sync recognises the colours and the sound and passes them on to the lamps. Therefore, the use is only possible if the image of the laptop / PC is transferred to the TV (slight time delays possible). As far as I know, there are also Philips TVs that can be synchronised directly with the lamps. It is not possible to

use a "standard TV" without image transmission from the laptop.

The Hue Play is a normal Hue lamp, designed as a wall spotlight. It has neither a microphone nor a light sensor and, like the other Hue lamps, it requires a Hue Base Station for colour control. You can either use the lamp as a normal light source (e.g. hidden behind a TV). Or you place it behind a PC screen and install the Hue Sync software on the PC. This controls the colour of any Hue lamp - not

only the Hue Play - depending on the colours currently displayed on the PC screen.

Unfortunately, I still think it's so stupid that the whole thing has to run via a PC :/

Or simply connect it to the Ambilight of a Philips TV.

The Hue lights are connected via the Philips app, which requires a Philips Hue Bridge. After that, it is possible to install the Philips Sync app on the TV or PC. This analyses the picture and changes the colour of the lights accordingly.

Does anybody know about compatibility with TVs in general? I mean I know on pc I can install the software, output the tv and have the effect and is also compatible with Razer Chroma games. But what if I launch Netflix on a Samsung smart TV, without passing through the pc, is there a way to sync the (samsung) tv to the Hue bridge ?
