Top camera and significantly better than the predecessor (5D Mark III). The image quality has improved noticeably and as a photographer it is worth the upgrade.
The camera is easy to use as with almost all Canon cameras. The touchscreen is NOT a gimmick, but really helpful and makes operation during a shoot very pleasant. I really like the ability to edit many buttons and controls and change functions. You can set up the camera very personally.
WiFi and GPS are also a nice bonus. Especially WiFi has proven to be a very useful feature for me.
Disadvantages:
It would have been nice if Canon had gone for UHS-II on SD cards and replaced CF cards with CFast 2.0. Is not bad in operation, the speed is top (but no 1DX MkII) but so you would be better equipped for the future.
The codec MJPEG for 4K recordings brings a few advantages, but it devours storage space and eats through memory cards like nothing else. If you're serious about shooting 4K with it, be prepared to buy several 128GB memory cards and have enough RAID systems or external hard drives ready on your computer. Another option for a slightly more compressed codec would be desirable here.

What surprised me in a particularly positive way was the immediate delivery: order on Friday around 13:00, delivery by post the next day, a Saturday, at around 13:00!
Finally a sensor quality at the level of Canon!
As a user of the version III, I must say that I was simply bluffed by the quality of the blacks and the highlights. Nothing to see with the 5D mark III which was very poor in these areas.
And what can I say about the autofocus which is simply top notch! I did an event the day after I received this camera and 100% of the pictures were perfectly sharp without any focusing error and a perfect sharpness thanks to the possibility to go up a lot in ISO without any noise that would make the picture unusable.
In short... a real jewel for me who has been very disappointed lately with my Canon cameras.

Solid camera that I equipped with the BG-E20 grip, with the first generation EF 24-105mm L lens (waiting for the new one). Finally a very dynamic sensor, the touch screen is a nice touch and the autofocus is much faster and more precise than on my old 6D. USB 3 allows a higher data rate (RAW).
I don't do video but the photos extracted from video are assigned a coef 1.74

The Swiss army knife among full-frame cameras. The ISO performance is on a solid level, those who like to travel in the semi-dark will be satisfied (of course not comparable to the Sony Alpha 7s II, but it is nowhere near the resolution of this DSLR). Those who want to switch from the 5DS / 5DSR should bear in mind that the image quality is only superior from ISO 12800, as the sensor has a limited resolution. In the studio and for tripod shots (landscape and architectural photography), the 5DS / 5DSR is still unrivalled (only medium format cameras like PhaseOne, Hasselblad etc. are better). Great for hobby photographers without much computer knowledge is the possibility to save still images in usable resolution from 4K videos directly in the camera. Adopted from the 5DS / 5DSR is the in-camera time-lapse video function, which uses only the electronic shutter: Then there is not a single mechanical release and the resale price-forming shutter count remains unchanged low. All in all, the 5D Mark IV is a successful, practical, noble compromise for ambitious, semi-professional photographers or also for professionals with a limited budget or as a fully-fledged backup to the 1DX Mark II. Journalists who (have to) take photos themselves should also be happy with it. Certainly also a great tool for wedding photography (lighter than the 1D). Attention: For 4K videos there are better alternatives, often even cheaper ... 4K is more of an add-on option here for emergencies. Like the toothpick in a pocket knife. :-) It's a shame that in 4K mode, wide-angle lenses almost become telephoto lenses (a slight exaggeration).

Compared to the two previous generations I had, the Mark IV is a real improvement! The image quality (especially at high ISO) is a whole new thing - especially the massively improved dynamic range brings whole new processing qualities.
Together with the massively more intuitive autofocus and the new touch display, the purchase definitely makes sense for any fan of the 5D class. Especially if you also use the video function extensively: The autofocus with automatic focus tracking justifies the investment in itself!
What is not at all convincing is the camera control app provided by Canon. It looks like something out of the early days of app programming and does not even offer a retina view (!!!) of the live image on iOS/iPad (focus control impossible). And: 4K filming can be categorically ruled out. Only a small image section of the whole and an unbelievable amount of data caused by the codec used make one refrain from filming in high resolution with the 5D.
