I think if you have an HDMI Output it should work but not all Macbooks have HDMI Outputs

No. This adapter is for HDMI output to VGA input (Display). For VGA to HDMI the following product should work: Marmitek Connect VH51 (Analog -> Digital)

I use the adapter between PC (formerly Acer, now a NIPOGI) and monitor (ASUS, VE228). The image signal is transmitted without any problems. I have not had any problems so far. I can't say whether the adapter works with playstation.

No, but the adapter should work without it (at least all other HDMI to VGA adapters I have used do). I think it's more that the micro-USB port provides "power" than serves as an input. But I can't find any real documentation on this anywhere. Nor is it described anywhere on the manufacturer's site or in the user manual (https://www.digitus.info/en/products/video-and-audio/video-converter/da-70461/). But other questions about this product here on Digitec have also been answered to the effect that no additional power supply is needed.

Works with Apple TV HD. However, a power supply unit is also required.
The task of the Digitus Converter is to connect a monitor with VGA input (your Dell monitor) to a PC/laptop with HDMI output (your Aspire 5). This worked for me (with other devices). Whether this works with your Aspire 5 (which model exactly?) and your Dell monitor (which model exactly?) remains to be seen. Your Aspire 5 probably has HDMI 2.0, the Digitus is "compatible with HDMI 1.4a", it is to be hoped that the Aspire is also backwards compatible with HDMI 1.4a. The only thing that will help is to try it out, but at least it's worth a try - after the USB connection didn't work...
I use it to connect a Chromecast to an older projector with a VGA connection. This works well.
