My house is 40 years old and was built on solid concrete at the time. 2 floors are covered (20x10m each). Currently Devolo Magic (Mesh Network) are connected with 2 adapters. In addition, there is also a Netgear R6300 WLAN router with dual band. On the WLAN router within 10m I achieve the full performance of 500 Mbps. The 1st Devolo on the 1st floor reaches 60 Mbit/s within 5m of the adapter. The other two (up to 20m from the base) also achieve 40-60Mbit/s. This is a considerable reduction in performance, but it is always enough to operate 2 x 4K TV and APPLE TV 4K. Previously I had 1 Devolo 1200+ with 2 adapters available for the same residential volume. The performance was also 60 Mbit/s with each of these. The disadvantage was that if you moved within 200 square metres (per floor) you had to adjust the WLAN setting. This no longer happens with a mesh network. Now I have 3 Devolo 1200+ devices lying around on the shelf (approx. 2 years old and as good as new) and they will hardly ever be used again. Interested in them? 50 Sfr incl. shipping, so almost free....

The Pro versions also offer business-oriented functions such as multiple VLANs, multiple SSIDs, WPA2 Enterprise and RADIUS authentication of the clients. To what extent these features can be used in conjunction with the "normal" dLAN 1200+ devices, which according to various information here at Digitec are compatible with the Pro versions, remains to be seen.

It is enough to buy only one extension unit. You can clone the WLAN settings and clients can use the same SSID and password, but this does not create a mesh because the main router and the extension unit do not communicate with each other and, for example, hand over the clients for a clean handover or automatically synchronise the password when they change.

As far as I know, they are compatible with each other as long as they have the same speed. It's best to check again on the manufacturer's website. I have taken down my WLAN routers and replaced them with the Devolo. They can be operated with the same or their own WLAN ID. The Move usually works, but sometimes a device gets stuck at an AccessPoint and you have to briefly switch off and on the WLAN on the device to fix it.

It is recommended to use the fastest adapter with the router. But if you have several adapters, you can test this. Logically, the fastest adapter can only communicate with a slower adapter at its maximum speed.

Yes, that works. Even mostly with powerline adapters from other manufacturers. As long as the adapters use the same HomePlug AV standard, this should not be a problem. Note, however, that the fastest adapter adapts to the speed of the connected adapter.

1. yes, but does that make sense if you have a WIFI access point directly at the modem? I would use the normal variety. Devolo dLAN 1200+ (1200Mbit/s) 2. can only speak for myself, works flawlessly. I think it also depends on the frequency and what other signals are on the band.

From the devolo FAQ on the manufacturer's website: http://www.devolo.ch/article/dlan-550-duo-starter-kit-powerline/ --- Are devolo adapters compatible in different speed classes (200,500,650,1200)? Yes, devolo products in different speed classes are fully compatible with each other. In a mixed network, each adapter connects to every other adapter at the highest possible speed. Regardless of the other adapters in the network. For example, in a network consisting of one 200 Mbps adapter and two 500 Mbps adapters, the 200 Mbps adapter connects to the 500 Mbps adapters at 200 Mbps. At the same time, the 500 Mbit/s adapters connect to each other at the full 500 Mbit/s speed. The only exceptions are old devices with 14 and 85 Mbps speeds. Unfortunately, these are not compatible with today's products. --- Do devolo adapters work together with Homeplug adapters from other manufacturers? All adapters that are certified according to the HomePlug standard work together. To connect devolo adapters to a common network with HomePlug adapters from other manufacturers, assign the same password to all devices. The devolo devices are configured as usual: Start the dLAN® Cockpit Entering the security IDs of all dLAN® adapters Assigning the common network password Now assign the same password as the dLAN® devices to the other Homeplug devices according to the manufacturer's instructions. --- TL;dr: Compatible with all products, including those from other manufacturers, which use the Homeplug standard.

With 3227473 there is an additional Homeplug adapter without WLAN in the package. This can be used, for example, to feed in the existing WLAN router so that the LAN 1200+ WiFi ac adapter also has a connection to the rest of the network environment - if no suitable Homplug network is already available.
