I don't have a MacBook, but since Mini-Displayport is a regular output, it shouldn't be a problem. I have a Surface and it works without any problems.

If the connections on your laptop and the Apple screen fit, there's really nothing to be said against it. Why do you have doubts?
No this cable doesn't support 4K!
