The original TN-248 (black, cyan, magenta, yellow) toners and compatible alternatives with the same type designations are suitable for the Brother MFC-L8390CDW. Higher variants such as TN-248XL (up to 3000 pages black, 2300 pages colour) or TN-249 (up to 4000 pages) are also compatible. The DR-248CL drum unit is also suitable for up to 30,000 pages.
Yes, you can install an additional paper drawer. The optional Brother LT-310CL paper cassette with 250 sheet capacity is compatible and is offered specifically for this printer.
You can find the total pages on the device under Menu > Settings > Machine information > Page counter. The MFC-L8390CDW has a 250-sheet feeder, 50-sheet ADF, 30-sheet multi-feed and a 150-sheet output.
The printer has an automatic document feeder (ADF) with duplex scanning, which enables double-sided scanning. The scan resolution is up to 600 x 600 dpi, and colour and black and white scans are possible. Scans can be sent directly to Microsoft Office formats.
The device supports scanning to network folders via SMB (Scan to Network Folder), which enables scans to be stored on a NAS. The SMB version can be configured to ensure compatibility with the NAS. It is also possible to scan and send scans directly by email, including setting up shortcuts and PIN protection for the email function.
It depends on the settings you choose - of all the scanners I've worked with, it's one of the faster ones. Especially when scanning documents with multiple pages. At a medium resolution (300x300dpi) and in colour, it takes about 10 seconds on one side and about 11 seconds on both sides (with document feeder).
Yes, you can use the scanner and Brother software to create readable PDFs with an OCR function. OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology makes it possible to convert scanned documents into editable text, which can then be saved as a searchable and readable PDF.
To do this, you use the Brother Control Centre software, which is installed with the device. You can use this software to start the scan and activate the OCR function to recognise the text in the scanned document and save it as an editable file. The prerequisite is that the OCR software (e.g. Scansoft PaperPort) is installed, which is often supplied with the printer or is available separately.
The device also supports scanning with OCR directly via the scan button if it is connected to a PC and the Brother iPrint&Scan software is installed. There you can select the "OCR" option during the scanning process to create an editable text file or a searchable PDF.
To summarise: Yes, you can create readable PDFs with OCR using the scanner and Brother software by using the appropriate scan option in the Brother software and having the OCR component installed.

I contacted Brother Switzerland support today. I had to send them a picture of my toner. They confirmed my printer came with " toners permettant d'imprimer 2 600 pages en noir et blanc, 1 400 pages en couleur"...
So its not the TN248 available in shops or their XL versions.
They asked me to send photo of the toner where serial numbers are visible and where we dont see the reference like in other official shop original toners.
Its like special "startup toners" (to ers de demarrage) and they have a capacity between TN48 and TN48 XL versions.
The printer will not work if only the black and white toner is installed and the colour toners are missing. Many modern printers, including colour printers, require all toner cartridges to be present in order to print as they often perform a check to ensure that all cartridges are installed. This also applies to the Brother MFC-L8390CDW as it is designed as a colour printer and requires the presence of all toner cartridges to function correctly.
The Brother MFC-L8390CDW is compatible with Windows 11. It supports both 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows 11, ensuring seamless integration with notebooks running this operating system.
Yes, the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) of the Brother MFC-L8390CDW supports A4 format. The ADF can process documents in formats up to A4, not just the smaller 76.2 x 127 mm format.
