Does the lens have a cover that protects the lens from scratches when the camera is switched off? Or is the "glass" always on the outside and can therefore get scratched when I transport the camera in my trouser bag?
For 11 years I have had a Pana without lens protection (similar construction to Coolpix W300, which I am toying with): Theoretically a flaw, but practically one less detail that can break. Lens is like new even after being handled by children. I would store keys, tools, coins and stones in the other trouser bag.
It does not have a removable lid. But the glass stands back a little. If you don't have any stones in your trouser bag, it should work. I don't have any scratches on it yet and I don't treat the camera very gently.
