Is this DAC also an AMP? I recently bought the Beyerdynamic Dt 990 pro with 250 ohm, which need more power. Will I get more volume and power out of my headphones with this, or is it just a signal converter.

The unit has an AMP based on the TPA6120A2 chip. Although the technical implementation of this amplifier in the E5 was the subject of discussion in audiophile circles, for this price it is a very good headphone amplifier that can handle headphones up to 0-300 or 300-600 ohms.
