If you take the US price of $3,899 as a basis, add 7.7% VAT and use the current exchange rate, the camera should cost CHF 3,950 and not CHF 4,479. Why should we Swiss pay more than any Yank? Can anyone explain this to me? In my opinion, you should wait until then to buy a camera unless you urgently need a new one. In any case, I'll wait until the price is at this level!
It is also easy to buy the product in the USA and have it delivered. Let's see how much you really save.
It should be noted that the US prices at the dealers are always given without the US tax. A New Yorker pays an additional $346 tax at B&H. So the difference is no longer too great.
And yes, the Swiss have a higher purchasing power (and also wages, rents, etc.) than the Americans, hence the higher prices.
I'm coming in after the war, but it's OK, the R5 has dropped below the CHF 3,000 mark! No reason to complain now!
(Joking aside, it was already a very good camera at CHF 4,000, so at less than CHF 3,000 it's well worth the investment).
When the R5 Mark II comes out, the R5 will certainly be cheaper.

A year later and the R5 still costs the same. The R5 is in great demand and Canon can do without the few people who complain about the price. Many of those who complain probably can't afford the camera.
If the price in Switzerland falls, it will probably do the same in the USA. I've already heard that the manufacturers in multilingual Europe have more work to do. Does that add up to an extra 500 per camera? Expensive language translations.
Everyone wants a piece of the pie, and since Switzerland is not in the EU, it gets an even smaller piece of the pie.
It's always the same whining "We poor Swiss pay so much more than the others..." As soon as the majority of the Swiss are willing to work for the same wages as abroad, the prices will also equalise! Fortunately, Digitec is more expensive than abroad, because that is the only way this company can pay its employees correctly (I assume that it does, because I have not heard anything to the contrary to date). A price difference in the range of 10% is always justified compared to abroad.
Waiting is always good. Early adopters always pay more. In a year's time, the price will certainly be lower.
