I bought the (deliberately more expensive) cable to be able to connect the ASUS ZenScreen MB166C (without having to stow the long USBC<>C cable supplied on the table). Surprisingly, this does not work, I get the error message "The display connection may be restricted. ..." Which (short) cable is suitable for the external monitor mentioned above? Thanks for your help.

You need a Thunderbolt cable for this. They have the required transmission performance.
A suitable cable would be this: OWC Thunderbolt 4 - USB-C (0.30 m, USB 4.0)
