The printer itself does not have a scanner. On Android, you can download the Brother Print Service plugin and then print directly from a Gallery app, so you don't need to install an additional app. You can also just use the Brother iPrint&Scan app to print. So yes, it is definitely possible to print directly from your smartphone!
