Does this UPS do the automatic shutdown with a Synology NAS? I thought the UPS had to be connected either to the network, or directly via USB to the NAS for the NAS to initiate the shutdown...only I don't see USB or network connection options with this UPS.
Or have I misunderstood something?

Exactly, in order to perform a safe shutdown of a Synology or QNAP NAS, a UPS solution must have at least one USB interface. The NAS systems communicate with the UPS solution via the interface. If such control options are missing, NAS systems simply run until the UPS runs out of juice and then you may be left with a hard disk defect or a corrupted file system.
