Does anyone actually have experience with "overheating"? And does this problem also occur with the a6000? I would love to buy the camera, but overheating scares me on the right, as it's not exactly cheap.
Hi GucciBusiness, I am also the owner of a Sony a6300 and also a Sony A7R2. Although I have also heard of overheating problems, I have not had any problems so far. Not even after 30 minutes of 4K recording without a break. However, I can only guess why some cameras overheat. It could also be that software updates, which often happen for a camera, have improved/solved the problem in the current ones.
I had the 6300 and now the 6500.
I personally never had a problem with overheating, but I primarily take photos and not videos.
The "problem" seems to occur when
- 4K is filmed
- a "slow" memory card is used.
Solutions
- use an extremely fast memory card, the Lexar 2000 is supposed to be good.
- fold out the screen, which allows more cool air to reach the body.
- if you film on a tripod, you can also take out the battery and leave the hatch open, this also cools the camera better, but then the camera has to be supplied with power via cable.
- Apparently a battery grip can also help, but I'm no longer sure.
So from what I've read so far, opinions are divided. I'm standing between the Canon 80D or a6300. The 80D has everything I need, but the size of the a6300 is a big plus point =/ I just wonder if the a6300 can cope with overheating in summer in countries like Italy or Portugal?
Hello GucciBusiness
I own the a6300. So far it has overheated on me once when I was filming in a closed room with 30°C ambient temperature and the screen folded in. After the crash I folded the screen out and was able to continue filming without further incident.
