Do you have any experience of using it with an iPhone with a case? Specifically, how thick are the plugs themselves? Unfortunately, those of the "sister model" (USB 3.2 Gen 2) are a little too thick for this.

Mobile phone cases are all super different - mine fits. I measured the connector for you.
USB-C connector is 6.5mm long up to the housing

Plug housing is 13mm wide and 8mm high
