Come to think of it, what use is it to me as a consumer to know what version and generation the great engineers of wired transmission via USB are coming up with?
to be clearer, wouldn't it be better to only advertise the amount of data that the cable can actually transfer?

I'm right there with you!
Nobody says: "Please give me a 210x297mm sheet of paper" - we say A4 and everyone knows.
So why not just say: "This is a USBC - 10 Gbit/s - full stop."
It would be much more relaxed for us mere mortals... and I wouldn't have to google my cable before I plug it in!
