can photo paper be printed on with this printer? If yes, what should I pay attention to?

Yes, that's quite possible. I've already printed a few photos myself, even on photo paper from discount stores. The result is quite ok. Of course, the printer is not designed for this, but it's possible in a pinch. The photo paper is inserted with the glossy side on top, if I'm not mistaken.
