Question about EOS 6D Mark II - 152223

avatar

After 9 years of faithful use of the 5DmkII, I need a successor. Since I don't take photos that often anymore, I'm wondering if the 6D could be an alternative. What do you think? Or should I invest in the 5D again for the next 9 years?

The 6D MKII is half the price of the 5D MK IV. The image quality is certainly similarly good. And it is smaller and lighter. If you don't need 4k video, but mainly want to take photos, you won't find anything better in this price range. It's better to buy a good lens for the money you save.

So the only thing I miss is the joystick for navigating. Otherwise a top camera!

Depends on where your photography priorities are. Macro, portrait, landscape, wildlife or sports photography? Compared to the 5D MKIV, you have to compromise on image quality (dynamic range, image noise at high ISO values). The 6D is certainly suitable for macro and portrait photography. The swivel display also has advantages. With the 5D, it was left out for reasons of better splash water protection.

The 5D clearly has the better autofocus and a higher continuous shooting speed. This is a big plus for moving subjects. The 5D is also more robust. I switched from the 6D MKI to the 5D MKIV and have no regrets. Maybe you can find a portal on the internet that compares the two cameras and shows the pros and cons, then it would be easier for you to make a decision. At the moment you can get the 5D MKIV for 2299.- with a 3-year premium warranty and Fr. 300.-- cashback. A clear buy recommendation.

Take some lenses with you, go to the store and let your feeling decide. That's always the best option. But for the price I would take the 6ii. It's not inferior to your usual 5ii, except maybe for the missing 1/8000sec...
