Compact cases are becoming fashionable again thanks to HTPCs and Mini-ITX, along with small CPU coolers. Contrary to the general bigger-is-better trend, the main requirement here is not to achieve maximum cooling performance. Instead, a small size, particularly a minimal height, is sought.
Following the principle of a round, top-blowing fan, the K32 from Akasa is designed. The heatsink is mounted directly onto the processor. Unlike many other CPU coolers, which use an orthogonally arranged fan, this one blows directly onto the heatsink and the processor.
