The new Ultimaker PVA material is a water-soluble filament specifically designed as support material for the Ultimaker 3. PVA is used solely as support material, which completely disappears after the printing process once it has spent some time in a water bath. Consequently, the filament can only be used with dual extruder FDM printers. The great advantage of PVA is that a designer does not have to consider geometric limitations when creating a 3D model. The material works exceptionally well with Ultimaker PLA and Nylon filaments. In Cura, there are specific material profiles for these combinations. In our opinion, the Ultimaker 3 is currently the best option in desktop FDM printing for producing highly complex 3D models.
