The Sigma zoom leaves an excellent impression, especially mechanically. Thanks to the internal zoom, quiet autofocus and reduced focus breathing, it is also a recommendation for film makers. The optical performance is very good with slight limitations at open aperture, primarily at 17 and 40 mm.
While lenses with an aperture of f/2.8 are also available in the APS-C range in various focal length ranges, you have to search longer for faster variants. Sigma is now filling this gap with its new 17-40 mm F1.8. But why should you go for such a fast lens in the first place? There are indeed differences in bokeh and sharpness in direct comparison - at a very high level, mind you.
