    Easy to flash with ESPHome for Home Assistant :-)

    Was surprised when my router suddenly showed "espressif" under DHCP Leases (o;
    So immediately unscrewed and saw an ESP32 with 4MByte FLash...

    ESPHome project (if it hopefully works), will be put here:

    myStrom
    has a clause in there that prohibits reverse engineering. But you only have to accept the clause if you open a cloud account. There is nothing about it on the packaging or in the enclosed sheets (o;

    Update: myStrom WiFi Switch has been successfully flashed with ESPHome, on/off, LEDs and power meter work under Home Assistant. Temperature sensor is useless as it only measures the heat of the PCB. 10W consumer on -> sensor value increases by 6 degrees.

    Pro

    • ESP32 chip instead of Atheros AR9331

    Contra

    • Temperature sensor measures heat of the PCB
  • Tacheles

    Device great, app poor, support even more so

    Actually, this is a really good thing. I now have 15 such switches in use and have gained some experience with them. Most of the time everything works well: plug in the switch, connect. But not always.

    The app is buggy,
    adding a new device often only works after the 10th attempt. After pairing, it sometimes takes a quarter of an hour for the new device to appear in the app. The schedules do not always work. The desktop app doesn't even work at all, it would have to be updated by the developer.

    But the developer doesn't want to do that. Answers come quickly, but they are always very short and downright curt. Not a friendly word or one of thanks for using the products, but simply "delete app and restart". But the tips often don't help. Hints that the desktop app would not launch were dismissed: "It works for us." That was the end of the matter for myStrom.

    The products are great. I've already bought 15 of them for a reason. They make my life and saving electricity a lot easier. However, this is diminished by buggy apps and the fabulously unfriendly and disinterested support.

    My tip: buy them anyway and grit your teeth. As is so often the case as a Swiss consumer.

    Pro

    • Connection mostly easy, but not always
    • Measures temperature
    • can schedules
    • can Auto Off

    Contra

    • Head-over-head design (for triple sockets) not mentioned anywhere
    • unfriendly and disinterested support

    Top monitoring

    Easy to install over wifi, not a bad application for home automation at all. I don't really like being pushed to pay a subscription fee for online features though. Impossible to use the monitoring if no internet access... I'm not sure I'll be able to use it if I don't have internet access, but I'm not sure I'll be able to use it if I don't have internet access.

    Pro

    • Independent integrated API
    • Advanced control functions
    • Planning
    • Monitoring (with temperature)

    Contra

    • Not necessary without internet access with the original application
    • Awards
