Does what he should but joy has no one with it

Just average. You can print and copy. The software and the apps are the absolute disaster as always. Only Canon is even worse. The pdf manual has over 200 pages (1 language). The monochrome two line display is like from a time machine from the past. Nostalgia feeling. No symbols, only text. With many many complicated submenus. Simply a horror. The paper drawer is a misconstruction. Clamps everywhere and as cheaply made as possible. To throw against the wall. I print with the poor thing until the toners are empty. Then it flies to the garbage. If you expect nothing you will not be disappointed. Better price a shelf higher choose.

    Pro

    Contra

    • menu navigation
    • monochrome display
    • design
    • user manual, only available as pdf (214 pages!!!)
    • HP Software/Apps, K-A-T-A-S-T-R-O-P-H-E!

At times OK then bad! Expensive toner!

Ran fine for a month, then suddenly instead of printing one page of text, it prints through the entire 250-sheet stack of paper with cryptic characters at the top of the page. After complete reset it worked again for a while and then the same error again.

This printer industry frustrates me. You buy a new printer for CHF 270.- and after 4 months you have to spend almost 80% of the original price for new toner. Somewhere there must be a limit with the manufacturers, that can't be done! This is a rip-off!

    Pro

    • Hp App and functions

    Contra

    • Much too expensive refill toner
    • WLAN print suddenly cryptic characters and has printed whole stack of paper
    • No double-sided printing
    • Monochrome display

Slow, difficult to setup, terrible screen and confusing menus

I’ve been buying HP laser printers for years. The 178 is a huge disappointment and not up to HP standards. For what you get it should be half the price. Spend a little more money and get a better printer.

    Pro

    • Good print quality
    • Relatively inexpensive (but not a great deal)

    Contra

    • Slow. Not expected laser printer speeds, more similar to inkjet speed
    • Toner is small and expensive
    • Replacement drum is so expensive that you’ll prefer buying a new printer = wasteful
    • Menus are useless. You have to use the app which isn’t so great itself
    • Wi-Fi issues. Unless you’re right next to the router, you’ll have connection problems.
    • Output tray is undersized and weak. Paper winds up on the floor.

    • Easy to use

    Contra

    • Quite expensive toner

The printer prints well and reliably

You pay much more for the extra print cartridges than for the printer.

    Pro

    • Good print quality
    • easy to set up

    Contra

    • expensive replacement cartridges (50.- per colour)
    • Poor control panel
    • When the paint is empty, a replacement must be found quickly.
