Due to different suppliers and delivery conditions, there may be price differences compared to other suppliers. We always try to set a price in line with the market, but this is not possible for all products. But supply and demand also play a role.

Hello, I do not own this drive, but as explained in the German manual from page 22 or 30, you can replace the defective hard drive yourself and do the status / repair with the "WD Drive Utilities software". The device does not have hot-swap, so it must be switched off to replace the defective drive.

Well, I also bought this part and it is unusably loud. I put the hard drives in a Lacie case and it's fine. In addition one of the hard drives was no longer recognised, so I thought one of them was defective! ...but in the Lacie case there was no problem. Somehow there is something wrong with the software!

No, this is just a really massive external hard drive with a RAID0 (no redundancy) or RAID1 setup (mirroring of data), which means you have 8TB of data storage left over. This disc is not a NAS. This would be a NAS that would also be expandable, Synology DS418 with 4 x 2TB hard drives: Synology DS418 (4 x 2TB, WD Red Plus)

In idle mode you hear nothing. When interrogating, the noise level is very moderate depending on the location (underground). The LED is more disturbing. In idle mode, it shines brightly over the entire housing. Rather disturbing in a one-room flat or bedroom.

I am not aware of this. First check the voltage and current of the WD my Book Duo (16TB). (this should be written in the manual or on the power supply). Then I would see if there is an adjustable power supply unit (not a lab unit, too expensive). I had the same problem with another product and was able to solve it with an adjustable one. At the competitor Media Markt Basel ;-) Otherwise, here is the link, https://www.amazon.de/Western-Digital-Netzteil-Cloud-Elements/dp/B00URILC8O I hope this helps you.

Betrug WD My Book Duo data forever lost if Drive Enclosure Dies! weitere details sind im link einfach nur durch lesen community.wd.com/t/wd-my-bo... WD My Book Duo data forever lost if Drive Enclosure Dies! WD External Drives External Drives for PC jtech May '15 This is a huge issue and needs to be addressed. I have spoken with a data recovery company, they have said that if your WD My Book Duo which has the “AES 256 Hardware encryption” feature, if the drive enclosure dies that your data will NOT be accessible even if your hard drives are in perfect working order. Your data may be fine and dandy on your hard drives but you can not access it. Even if you are able to find and purchase another exact WD My Book Duo and put the drives in that, it will NOT work. This is because the hardware encryption is ALWAYS used, even if you never attempt to use the WD Security app to enable “password” protection. This fact is NEVER made clear in ANY WD documentation anywhere! I hope Western Digital can provide a way in firmware updates to either DISABLE the always on hardware encryption, or to at least give us the ability to EXPORT/SAVE the encryption KEY that the device is using to encrypt the data, and provide for us a SOFTWARE utility which will enable us to use that KEY to read our hard drives even if the “Enclosure” stops working. Here is a similar related post that has not been responded to: community.wd.com/t5/Externa... It does not help that some well respected “REVIEW” sites have done really pathetic reviews of this product which are more like infomercials saying that they observed no performance drop with encryption enabled or disabled, and of course they did not because they did not know that “encryption” was/is ALWAYS on regardless of whether they enable “security password key” or not. They assumed like most reasonable users would that encryption is enabled only when a password/key is set not that its ALWAY - WD My Book Duo data forever lost if Drive Enclosure Dies!

WD My Book Duo is always operated with RAID. Either with RAID 0 or RAID 1. With RAID 0, the two hard drives are combined into one logical drive. In the case of the WD My Book Duo (20TB), 20TB are available. With RAID 1, only 10 TB are available on the same model and the data are mirrored on the second drive, which results in an automatic data backup.

There are two 10TB hard disks in it. (Hence the name "Duo") Yes, theoretically you can change the hard disk yourself, but it is not designed for this. If you already know that you might need more memory in the future or you are afraid of defective HDDs, I would buy a RAID.
