We have big problem with this radio with battery operation. The radio does not work with rechargeable AA batteries (In other devices these batteries work perfectly) or only works for a short time, although the batteries are fully landed and with normal AA batteries only for a short time. What can be the cause

Are the contacts still OK? Otherwise, roughen/scratch the contact points with a sharp-edged object.
