According to the online reviews, the tracking of the controllers takes place via the illuminated rings on the controllers themselves. The cameras on the headset track these rings accordingly to determine the position of the controllers. The whole thing (and more) is described in more detail on the following page => https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/htc-vive-cosmos-vs-vive-pro/
This is not a problem.
Normal batteries only have 1.5V directly after unpacking. In a few minutes of operation (depending on the power), the voltage drops significantly.

There is some test for Steam VR for MAC but the market is too small so it will take some time!
So you could use the Cosmos via Steam VR MAC!
Otherwise look at Oculus, they seem to be compatible with MAC! You can also use it directly via smartphone.
Oculus Quest you are good to go!
Oculus Quest 128GB
I don't know about Oculus yet, but this one will also be worth buying!
I would also be interested in this. I would like to simply replace the VR glasses from the first Vive generation (because they have a higher resolution).
The Cosmos comes with an A cable, you don't need an adapter. The 980ti is sufficient according to the manufacturer's specifications, but I do not have my own experience.
Theirs a promotion at the moment where you get 1 year of Viveport for free. If you preorder, theirs a Code in the box. Just use the code untill the 25th, then you'll get a year for free. www.viveport.com/myredeem
Hello d1g1t3c8
Until 02 October you can benefit from the pre-sale price on the Vive Cosmos, including the code for the 12 months free Viveport. In general, the code for the 12 months free Viceport can be redeemed until 25 October. Regardless of whether you order the product at the pre-sale price or after release. Greetings Yannick
There is a wireless adapter for the VIVE Cosmos (https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/htc-vive-wireless-adapter-vr-zubehoer-9577370), but the PC is still needed.
Standalone VR is offered by e.g. Oculus Quest/Go or HTC VIVE Focus.
It has been improved, tracking runs cleanly for vr-only and vr-optimised titles. But still, neither I nor anyone I know can manage a longer session. So 30-60min max, then comes sweat, burning eyes and ev nausea....
+ the cable mess, if wireless is not playing
General: Still far from perfect or optimal.
If you already have a VR from HTC, the first version with basic boxes is really not bad!
The battery in the controller is just ridiculous! The glasses themselves are good! With the update that will come for about 100.- is the glasses Lighthouse Tracked!
Otherwise buy the Vive right away!
