Questions about Dynabook Dynadock

Why are all USB devices (printer, hard disk etc.) only recognised via the front USB ports? On the other hand, with the four in the back, the hard disk gets power but is not displayed on the laptop. The same with the printer, printing at the front is no problem at all at the back. Is it possible that this device is already defective after just one month?

My docking station has been in regular use for about 8 months.I have 2 laptops that I connect alternatively. All connections work perfectly.

If I connect the device to an Ultrabook with Thunderbolt, will the Ultrabook charge?

Good question :-). On my Sony VAIO Duo (13.30", Intel Core i7-4500U, 8GB, SSD, 3G, 4G) the Toshiba USB 3.0 docking does not charge. Neither does my Surface Pro 3. I don't think so, because the plug on the Toshiba USB 3.0 docking is a USB type B plug.
