In principle, this should work. Here it is simply important that the ink cartridges are inserted (even if they are empty) and that the printer settings are set to "greyscale" or "black/white".
Yes, double-sided printing is possible, just manually, you have to reinsert the sheet by hand so that the reverse side is also printed.
If you regularly want to have a lot of documents printed on both sides, I would not recommend this one, but a duplex printer that refeeds the paper automatically.
