This image comes from the first edition of the Violet Fairy Book by Andrew Lang, a Scottish poet and anthropologist. The book was compiled by Lang in 1901, illustrated by Henry J. Ford, and published under the editorial guidance of Lang's wife, Leonora Alleyne. It was part of the twelve-volume series Lang’s Fairy Books, with each book named after the color of its fairy.
