The cover is made of sturdy cardboard with visible thread stitching and features an inner pocket for loose notes. The last 16 pages are detachable. The name Moleskine is attributed to the British writer Bruce Chatwin, who preferred the simple black notebooks from a French paper manufacturer in Tours for his work and affectionately called them Moleskin. In 1997, the anonymous notebook, which had been a vessel for sketches and stories of many artists and intellectuals, was revived by a Milanese publisher, who chose the literature-inspired name Moleskine.
