The lamp was designed by Poul Henningsen, whose initials form the name of the lamp. The design of the small PH 2/1 table lamp is based on the principle of a reflective three-shade system that directs most of the light downwards. The three shades are made by Louis Poulsen from mouth-blown opal glass with triple glazing. The interior of the shade is glossy, while the exterior is sandblasted for a soft, diffuse light distribution. The base is available in high-gloss chrome, brass, or black anodized aluminum extrusions.
