The Leica Q3 combines classic and modern, timeless design with new technologies that have never been seen in the Q series before. The third generation, the Q3, uses the same fixed focal length and full-frame design that has already proven itself in the Q and Q2 cameras, but enhances performance with a 60MP sensor, a new hybrid autofocus system, 8K video recording, as well as an improved electronic viewfinder and LCD displays.
The Q3 features the same 60MP full-frame CMOS sensor as the flagship model M11. This high-resolution sensor is equipped with a back-illuminated (BSI) design that offers improved noise performance and faster readout speeds, benefiting both photography and video applications. The higher resolution is particularly well-suited for capturing detailed subjects such as landscapes and architectural themes, and the noise reduction of the BSI design enhances clarity and color accuracy when working in low light with higher ISO values.
The resolution added by the 60MP sensor also enables unique digital zoom functions that simulate working with different focal lengths: 1.25x cropping mimics a focal length of 35mm, 1.8x cropping mimics a focal length of 50mm, 2.7x cropping mimics a focal length of 75mm, and 3.2x cropping mimics a focal length of 90mm.
One of the most significant updates in the Q3 is the introduction of the hybrid autofocus system, which utilizes phase detection in combination with contrast detection and Depth from Defocus (DFD) autofocus to focus faster and more accurately on moving subjects or in challenging lighting conditions. The addition of the phase detection system also enables an intelligent subject recognition system that can detect and track eyes, faces, bodies, and animals in the frame.

The concept of a viewfinder camera with a fixed wide-angle lens is certainly not for all photographers. But for those focussing on street and reportage photography, the Leica Q3 is an exceptional and impressively powerful tool. All this remains completely unobtrusive and enables not only unobtrusive photography, but also the creation of cinema-quality films directly from the bare hand.
Few cameras offer so much image quality in so little space. If you use the DNGs and carefully remove noise, you can also use high ISO values up to ISO 800 without any problems, ISO 1600 then with slight reductions. Compared to the Q2, the Q3 is not an update, but a real improvement...

Like its predecessor models, the Q3 combines the deliberate limitation to a fixed focal length with a high level of image quality. Fans of this concept will be less convinced by the moderate increase in sensor resolution compared to the Q2 than by the many improvements to the features and handling of the new model...
