Product details

The Leica D-Lux 8 is a compact, versatile camera for the travel-loving photographer. It features an 11-34mm zoom lens, which corresponds to a zoom range of 24-75mm in full-frame equivalent. This allows you to capture wide landscapes, such as mountainous areas during your vacation. Zoom in and take stunning portrait photos of your travel group. With a large maximum aperture of f/1.7, you can create sharp images with a soft bokeh effect. The camera is equipped with a 17-megapixel Micro Four Thirds image sensor, enabling you to produce crisp photos and videos with plenty of detail. After your vacation, you can print these in a photo album without any loss of quality. You have the option to shoot using the screen or the viewfinder. The OLED technology of the viewfinder delivers bright images with realistic colors.

The Leica D-Lux 8 is a stylish but expensive compact camera. Its strengths include the fast zoom, the large viewfinder and the high image quality for photos. The D-Lux 8 is a little weaker when it comes to action shots and videos; Sony's RX series models such as the Cyber-shot RX100 VII offer more speed and better sound.

Smartphone cameras have become better and better in recent years, but they cannot match the image quality of high-quality compact cameras and system cameras. The latter also score points with folding monitors, electronic viewfinders, lots of buttons and dials for quick manual adjustments and interchangeable lenses...

Leica's D-Lux 8 leaves a mixed result in the test. The camera is stylish and makes a high-quality impression. However, the image sensor and autofocus remain at the level of the LX100 II from 2018 and cannot keep up with the best cameras tested. The test victory goes to the Fujifilm X100VI, which is the only camera that is technically completely up to date...

  • PositiveThe small Leica gets a lot out of its Micro Four Thirds sensor. The operating concept is unusual, but well thought-out and quickly grasped with a little practice. The mini flash included in the scope of delivery is practical for brightening up indoor shots.
  • NegativeThe D-Lux 8 lacks modern multimedia functions that are now standard on current cameras, for example it cannot be used as a webcam. The fixed LC display is neither foldable nor rotatable and is therefore no longer up to date.

Leica has continued the D-Lux series very successfully. The eighth version of the model series scores with convincing photo and video quality. As expected, the workmanship earns top marks and provides haptic pleasure. Only the price of the Leica D-Lux 8 could put users off, as mirrorless system cameras including a good kit lens are also available for just under €1,600...
