The conductors of our USB cables are made of copper and are double-shielded. The foil-shielded AWG28 data lines are twisted in pairs and provide data transfer rates of up to 5 GBit/s. The copper wires for power supply are thicker, rated at AWG24. For cost reasons, other manufacturers sometimes use thinner wires or copper-clad aluminum or steel copper as conductor materials.
