Product details
LCD shields are popular extensions for Arduino. Until now, they required 6 IO pins and an additional 3 IO pins to control an RGB backlight, which meant that half of the available IO pins on an Arduino UNO were already used.
The new Adafruit I2C LCD Shield now controls the 16x2 character LCD, the 3 backlight pins, and 5 keypad pins using the two I2C pins of the Arduino, leaving all other pins free for your expansions. Furthermore, the two I2C pins can still be used for other I2C devices (RTC, memory, sensors). The RGB backlight can be set to 7 colors: Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Violet, Cyan, and White.
We offer both "RGB Positive" and "RGB Negative" LCDs in our range.
The shield works with all classic Arduinos and compatible clones such as the Uno, Duemilanove, Freaduino, Playduino, as well as the R3 Mega.
The I2C LCD Shield is a kit - assembly is very simple and can be completed within 30 minutes even with minimal soldering skills. On Ladyada's info page, you will find a detailed assembly guide along with all the software and libraries needed for the shield.
If desired, we can assemble and solder the shield ready for use - please select the appropriate option when adding the item to your cart.
