Adafruit DS3231 Precision RTC FeatherWing

A feather board without ambition is a feather board without FeatherWings!

This is the DS3231 Precision RTC FeatherWing: it adds an extremely accurate I2C-integrated real-time clock (RTC) with a temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) to any Feather main board.

This RTC is the most precise one you can find in a small, low-power package. With our Feather stacking headers or Feather socket headers, you can connect a FeatherWing to your Feather board and get started right away!

Most RTCs use an external 32kHz timing crystal to measure time with low power consumption. While this is good, these crystals exhibit slight drift, especially with temperature changes. Temperature slightly alters the oscillation frequency, but it adds up! This FeatherWing comes in a compact package because the crystal is integrated within the chip. Right next to the integrated crystal is a temperature sensor that compensates for frequency changes by adding or removing clock pulses, keeping the time measurement on schedule.

With a 12mm CR1220 coin cell placed on top of the FeatherWing, you can achieve precise timekeeping for years, even if the main power supply is lost. Ideal for data logging and clocks or anywhere you really need to know the time.

A CR1220 coin cell is required to utilize the battery backup capabilities! We do not include one by default, but we have them in stock, so grab one or use any CR1220 you have on hand.
