Behind the scenes
From click to delivery: a glimpse behind the scenes of the Galaxus warehouse
by Manuel Wenk

To celebrate Digitec Galaxus’s 25th anniversary, we’re opening our warehouse in Wohlen to customers for the first time. If you’re one of our ten lucky winners, you’ll get to see humans and robots working seamlessly together in a highly complex warehouse, preparing tens of thousands of products at top speed.
The air’s filled with the rattle of conveyor belts. Robots climb the shelves, while forklifts weave their way between the racks. And in the midst of it all, 1,500 employees work day in, day out to get tens of thousands of parcels sent out to customers. This 110,000-square-metre logistics centre in Wohlen, Aargau, is the beating heart of Switzerland’s largest online retailer. Roughly equal to the size of 15 football fields, the warehouse takes a good 15 minutes to cross on foot.

In the past, you could get a glimpse into this world through videos, magazine articles or a livestream. Now, in honour of Digitec’s 25th anniversary, we’re giving customers the chance to get a personal tour of our warehouse.
Galaxus is giving away ten exclusive spots on a guided tour of its warehouse in Wohlen, Aargau. The tour will last approximately two hours. Each winner will be allowed to take a plus one, meaning a total of 20 people will get this behind-the-scenes look. But if you’re unlucky on this occasion, don’t worry. Galaxus plans to offer regular, bookable warehouse tours over the coming months.

The tour will take place on 2 July at 5 p.m. It’s essential that you and your plus one are able to attend the tour in Wohlen on that day. You’ll find the rest of the terms and conditions linked in the competition infobox.
Enter by the end of May to take part. If you win, we’ll let you know by e-mail.

You’ll get to see firsthand how your orders go from your digital shopping cart to a Galaxus parcel. During the tour, you’ll get to follow a product’s journey from the receiving area to the picking tower to shipping. You’ll be faced with fully automated, 20-metre-high storage areas, where robots transport grey containers across the room to our employees. And you’ll find out how people and machines work together to ensure tens of thousands of parcels are dispatched from the warehouse on time every day.

As a Multimedia Producer, preparing multimedia content and knowing about cutting-edge technology is my business. My main focus at digitec is producing videos. I can’t wait to try out new products such as cameras, drones or smartphones as soon as they’re launched. This is where being at the source comes in rather handy. When I’m not working, I’m probably skiing, biking or hiking – the mountains are my place to be.
