A drone flight through the Galaxus warehouse
We flew a drone through the Galaxus logistics centre in Wohlen, Aargau: past conveyor belts, through narrow shelving scaled by robots and over the heads of hundreds of employees. The footage it recorded reveals where your online deliveries come from. We’re now also offering guided tours, giving you the chance to see the warehouse up close and personal.
The early-morning sun hangs low over the Aargau Central Plateau. A drone picks up speed as it flies towards a building covered in solar panels, passing trucks and then disappearing through an entrance gate. In just under three exhilarating minutes, the drone zips through a warehouse facility the size of 16 football pitches. Past forklifts, packing stations and conveyor belts. Past employees scanning parcels, filling boxes and grabbing products from the shelves. Past robots scaling the storage areas’ dizzying heights.

To boldly go where no one has gone before
Things get a little dicey when the drone reaches the shuttle warehouse. Here, automated robots weave their way along narrow passages through the shelves. It’s an area nobody has access to during regular working hours. But the drone flies through it anyway, missing moving robots and hundreds of boxes by a few centimetres. The outgoing goods area, where dozens of intersecting conveyor belts move boxes and products to their next destination, is equally impressive.
The video was shot by drone pilot Moritz Werffeli from Houseofdrones using FPV goggles. While flying the drone, all he could see was the camera feed right in front of his eyes. A large, fast drone was used for the exterior shots, while a compact, agile drone was used for the tight spaces inside the warehouse.

As a Multimedia Producer, preparing multimedia content and knowing about cutting-edge technology is my business. My main focus at digitec is producing videos. I can’t wait to try out new products such as cameras, drones or smartphones as soon as they’re launched. This is where being at the source comes in rather handy. When I’m not working, I’m probably skiing, biking or hiking – the mountains are my place to be.
