Why you can no longer donate your old laptop through us
by Alex Hämmerli
From now on, taking out device insurance means planting a tree. Not you personally, of course. An NGO takes care of the gardening for you. On top of this, we’re expanding our range of services: you can now also take out device insurance for your drone or TV.
Should your brand-new cell phone smash into the ground, or your laptop make acquaintance with your coffee, device insurance has got you covered – if you’ve taken it out. The device can often be repaired instead of landing in the recycling bin. That means you don’t have to buy a new device, which in turn conserves resources. Our partner for device insurance, i-surance, goes one step further: for every insurance policy sold, i-surance promises to plant a tree. For this purpose, i-surance has teamed up with the NGO Eden Reforestation Projects. The U.S. non-governmental organisation has tree-planting projects in eight countries, including Ethiopia, Madagascar, Haiti, Nepal and Kenya. With this initiative, the organisation shows its commitment to climate protection, while simultaneously supporting the local population.
Photo cameras, notebooks and cell phones were previously on our list of devices that could be insured. You can now also insure your printer, drone or game console, and more. If the device you plan to purchase can be insured, you’ll see an option to take out an insurance as soon as you place the product in your shopping cart.
The insurance provider has also changed. i-surance now cooperates with AXA Switzerland as risk carrier, instead of Great Lakes Insurance SE (Munich Re). The insurance still offers worldwide, all-round protection in the event of damage due to a drop or impact, display breakage, as well as in the case of water and moisture damage. For mobile phones and tablets, the insurance also covers costs arising from misuse of the SIM card in the case of theft. The number of claims that can be made during the contract period is unlimited. You can find more information on our device insurance here.
News aren’t enough for me – it’s the stories behind the news that capture my interest. Curiosity is my constant companion and the reason why I spend Saturday afternoons in my favourite café, eavesdropping on city stories while planning my next travel adventure and creating new event ideas. Zen meditation can wait.
