"Doom Eternal" vs "Animal Crossing": We make the tough direct comparison

They couldn't be more different and yet the internet has brought them together: "Doom Eternal" and "Animal Crossing New Horizon". Simon and I are celebrating the joint release day with an epic dual stream. We start at 2 pm.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting the launch of "Doom Eternal" and "Animal Crossing New Horizon" with countless memes and videos. The joint release day on 20 March meant that id Software's hellish shooter and Nintendo's cuddly life simulation united two disparate camps. And because my streaming partner Simon and I are also a mismatched pair, we had the perfect idea of how to celebrate this double launch in style: With a dual stream. Simon shoots his way through "Doom Eternal" and I collect fresh fruit in "Animal Crossing New Horizon". Both games in one stream. Both side by side.

"Doom" is good as hell
"Doom Eternal" follows on seamlessly from the sensational reboot from 2016. The role-playing aspect has been significantly expanded. There are even more upgrades for the Doom Slayer and his numerous firing sprays. Once again, the levels are packed with hidden upgrades, bonus levels and cute mini-figures from the "Doom" universe. The Doom Slayer has become even more agile. As well as double-jumping, he can now also double-jump forwards. The developers skilfully use this to chase you through numerous obstacles that would even make Super Mario sweat.

But don't worry: there's still plenty of shooting. The finishing moves are even bloodier and still give you back life energy. If you cut up enemies with the chainsaw, ammunition will gush out of them. The flamethrower is new. Once set on fire, you can harvest armour from the demons. This turns battles into a hectic ballet of violence where you have to constantly make sure that you use your abilities regularly to avoid suddenly finding yourself with your trousers down.
"Doom Eternal" also has what is probably the coolest metal soundtrack of all time. It fits perfectly with the level design, which is also so heavy metal that even Eddie on the Iron Maiden album covers turns pale with envy.
"Animal Crossing", the great distraction

And what about the new Animal Crossing? I'll have to play a little longer to make a reliable statement. But I've already picked out an interesting approach for my review. So stay tuned. What I can already say is that it's a must-buy for fans of its predecessors. Every corner has been improved and enhanced. You now have your own small island at your disposal, which you can gradually transform into your new home with numerous animal inhabitants. Chop wood, collect fruit, design furnishings. Everything that fans love about the series is there.

I don't understand all the hype (yet), but I'm going to try to get to the bottom of the fascination of "Animal Crossing" with an open mind - while Simon beats demons to a bloody pulp to brute heavy metal tracks in the stream next to me and laughs maliciously. It's going to be great.
"Doom Eternal" is available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One and was provided to us by Bethesda. "Animal Crossing New Horizon" is available for the Switch and was provided to us by Nintendo.
We usually stream on Wednesdays on Youtube. Also check out our Discord channel.
This is how we stream:

Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
