Six years ago, when the very first trailer for "Ori and the Blind Forest" was shown at E3, a murmur went through the hall. It was rare to see such an enchantingly beautiful game. This also applies to the sequel "Ori and the Will and the Wisps" for Xbox One and PC. Visually and acoustically, the platformer is intoxicating. What the Austrian "Moon Studio" has delivered here in terms of design and animations is unrivalled.

Once again, you take on the role of the eponymous forest spirit. In search of Ori's true destiny, you explore the mysterious world of the Nibel Forest. The game once again relies on the Metroidvania principle. You are relatively free to explore the forest. However, the path is often blocked until you have learnt the appropriate skill, such as climbing or double-jumping. In addition to battles against tough enemies that require good timing and skill, there are many small puzzles and countless hidden items to find.

The new upgrade system allows you to play Ori in different ways. Firstly, you can assign three active skills to three buttons. For example, the bow shot, sword and a ghost to assist you in battle. There are also passive skills in the form of shards, of which you can only have three active at the beginning. Fortunately, as you progress, you gain new shard slots and a larger life and energy bar.

The tried-and-tested mix of exploration, upgrade system, clever puzzles and challenging action still works. Thanks to the precise controls, the tricky jumping passages and the increasingly nasty enemies are great fun. I just wish that the otherwise pretty clear map would allow me to take notes. As it is, I often run off somewhere only to realise that I can't go any further. Packed with incredibly chic graphics and an atmospheric soundtrack, "Ori and the Will and the Wisps" is a must-have for all platformer fans.
