Is the audio transmitted via the 3.5mm jack? and if so, is this the case with every amplifier?

They probably won't be much different. If external and you have good headphones, I would choose Sennheiser. If internal, the SB Z....

From my point of view, only the headphone output is amplified. However, this should not be a problem because normally the AUX output is used for active speakers. At least that is how I have done it.
