Why do I need the USB power supply plug in addition, although the monitor is connected to the power supply independently?

The USB plug does not supply power to the monitor but to the adapter.
(This is an "active" adapter, so it is actually more of a converter. It needs power to convert the signal. And this current is supplied via USB, since the graphics connections only receive signals but no voltage).
