What is the best way to take away the paste used before?

if you want something on the shop:
Arctic Silver ArctiClean 30+30ml (60g)
If you want to dissolve a pad, it might be useful!
With paste, I have so far simply scraped off finely, handkerchief and then ethanol and these moist spectacle cleaning cloths^^.
I have never had to remove a pad!
