Question about Manfrotto E-690 PL rain cover for SLR camera

The case is relatively large and should fit any standard SLR. The tricky part is attaching the Velcro fastener to the front of the lens; on the one hand, the cover must protrude to protect against rain, on the other hand, it must not get into the picture itself. It is a perfectly acceptable emergency solution for the price, but I don't want to handle it for a long time. As soon as the rain stops -> take it off :-)
